Skincare For Your Scalp Is A Thing Now, And It Radically Transforms Your Hair

Hands up if you struggle in the hair department? From thin hair to brittle hair to losing hair to dandruff, lots of you tell us that you don’t know how to solve your hair challenges. Here’s the answer … it’s not your hair, it’s your scalp. And you don’t need pills to fix it!

The problem is that just like the skin on your face, your scalp needs healthy care.

We forget but our scalp is skin and it contains glands that produce oil (sebum). In the right amount, sebum helps make your hair soft and shiny. But buildup of sebum on the scalp, can lead to all types of hair challenges. First, oil build up causes dandruff. Over time, the dandruff and sebum will build up and together they will clog hair follicles. That leads to hair loss and hair thinning.

As you pile on products to try and improve your hair (think texturizing sprays), you actually make the problem worse. Dandruff, sebum (oil) and hairstyling products (dry shampoo!) build up on your scalp and clog your hair follicles. This all leads to thinner, dull hair.

Sounds a little gross .. yes! But you can fix it.

The solution. Exfoliate your scalp once a month to keep hairstyling products and natural oil from building up. This helps turn dull, thinning hair into shiny, thick, healthy hair.

The easy version: Wash with a shampoo that has a a built in exfoliator. Try this scalp scrub Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-exfoliating Shampoo ($42),.

The 20 minute version: Start by gently buffing your scalp with a teasing brush to loosen debris. Then, massage a scalp treatment into your dry scalp and hair for 10 minutes. Try Aveda Pramasana Purifying Scalp Cleanser ($35). Finally, wash, condition and style as you normally do.

All in all, the math never lies. A healthy scalp = healthy hair = happy you.
